Open House London, an annual event, when buildings throughout London open their doors to the public, takes place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. The GAC is taking part and invites you on a tour of the GAC building, just off Tottenham Court Road.

This year the display takes a wry sense of humour as its starting point. Works of art that use wit or the absurd have helped shape the Collection from its earliest paintings to the newest works by contemporary artists. Works displayed include droll 18th century caricatures, unprepossessing landscapes, bent coat hangers and even signs declaring an artist's innocence based on northing very much at all. The display explores the 'artist as joker' as well as the viewer's position as sharp-eyed observer. Visitors will also have a chance to view behind the scenes: the racking area and workshop.
