Shifting Identities, New Stories

Government Art Collection works linked to the Commonwealth experience

A new exhibition, curated especially to coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London, featuring selected works from the Government Art Collection, explores ideas of identity, history and place, by artists with cultural or personal links to Commonwealth nations.

A CHOGM tour taking place at the GAC

Join us for a curator-led tour to discover paintings and sculptures by artists working from the late 1930s to the 1970s; and more recent works by contemporary artists including Yinka Shonibare, Runa Islam and Lubaina Himid, winner of the 2017 Turner Prize.

Book onto one of our tours for individuals through the links below, via our externally hosted booking service. All tours are free, last an hour and are aimed at those over 16 years old. The GAC premises are not suitable for wheelchair users.
